On the Road Again
Cycling: 16.03.05, 21:12:25 by mib

Cycling After a small pause (18 years) I am back to riding from Capalaba to Brisbane to go to work. I am by no means the only person doing this. The numbers are growing all the time.

Given the numbers are increasing it is sad to see the conditions for doing are not improving, and in many places are deteriorating. The majority of the trip is done along a major road, Old Cleveland Road, and for half the distance the speed limits for the traffic are 70, 80 and 90 kph. So this ride is not for the traffic shy.

An alternative method to get a ride is to ride to Birkdale railway station and take the train. Sadly this is only possible when I start late, because in Brisbane Bikes are not allowed on inbound trains between 7:00-9:30am. Using the train to go home is no better. Bikes are not permitted on outbound trains 3:00-6:30pm, and the time for the train around 6:30pm has been changed, so it is just before 6:30 for all the zone 1 stations.

Anyway these are only minor nuisances with the trains. It is good to be back on my bike.
